Brian Benjamin Madden (b. 1989, Washington, DC) is an artist and designer living and working in San Francisco. His work captures what is fleeting: sound, motion, the residue of a life spent making. He gives it permanent physical form.
Brian's practice spans sculptural installation, works on paper, and large-scale commissions that live at the intersection of fine art and public experience. He is known for his gestural mark-making and his exploration of material and texture across stone, wood, metal, brass, canvas, and paper. Bringing a relational approach to his creative process, he collaborates with clients, material experts, and fabricators to explore new techniques and bring ambitious concepts to life.
His studio partners with brands, institutions, and private collectors to tell stories through art. His practice is informed by 15 years of experience as an industrial and environmental designer working with global brands including Nike, EA Sports, NFL, NFLPA, The North Face, and Google.
Brian's work has been exhibited in group shows in New York City, San Francisco, Portland, OR, and Rochester, NY. His time-based work Six Months in Dogpatch was displayed at The de Young Open 2023, the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco's triennial juried survey of Bay Area art. Brian's work is held in private and corporate collections across the USA, including Nike Inc and EA Sports.
